Developer Spotlight: RoverCraft

We’re rolling out with a Developer Spotlight series. Kiip works with thousands of developers- so it only makes sense for us to interview the masterminds behind the apps we integrate into. In this Q&A, we’re getting inside the head of Anton Belov, CEO of Mobirate and producer of RoverCraft. As an indie developer,  Anton has seen tremendous success after just a few months of implementing Kiip rewards. Check out his responses about mobile monetization, moment-based rewards, and his advice to developers.

Tell us about yourself and your role at RoverCraft Racing.
I am the founder and CEO of Mobirate and producer of RoverCraft racing game. I hire people, plan releases, organise internal and external activities, and participate in industrial conferences.

How big is your development team?
We have more than 40 people at Mobirate who are currently working on five game projects. And there are eight people working at RoverCraft.

What tools help you work?
Currently we are using Unity3D on all the games we do. For task tracking we use YouTrack and Confluence for documentation.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned when building an app/game?
Do not write big design documents in front. Many things will surely change. Iterate, iterate, iterate.

Any advice for developers creating their first app/game?
Just try to finish it. Releasing the first game is a big school for developers. If something won’t work on the first try, it will surely be better with the next one.

Tell me about your experience with mobile monetization. What works, what doesn’t?
In RoverCraft we have IAPs performing the best. Different kinds of ads give us around one third of revenue. Kiip has helped us integrate their service properly and we are seeing a great success with them. It’s very good that we can monetize non-paying players. We are trying to sell game-related physical goods but that is very low at the moment.

What do you like about moment-based rewards?
They just work. :) They prolong the excitement about the game and drive more engagement.

What excites you most about the mobile space right now?
What really excites me is that there are many cool services like Kiip and other non-standard ad platforms to help monetize the non-paying players who are more than 90% of the players.

What emerging trends do you hope to see become commonplace?
Getting closer to the game community. It is the key to success.

What’s next for RoverCraft Racing?
We are preparing a Halloween and Christmas event in the game. Also we are working on a 2.0 version. There will be some cool and big features like tournaments, leagues, new types of challenges, levels and costumes.

You can download RoverCraft here.
